Event Description: 

During this session, participants will learn about alternative forms of communication and how to support speaking and non-speaking people who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Participants can expect to learn about different tools and resources that are available and how to create and implement materials. Additionally, participants will learn how to implement total communication strategies to improve expressive language skills.

Presented by:

Ashley Tesfaye, M.A. CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist who has spent the last 4 years working with children with complex communication disorders. She has experience in assessment and implementation of a variety of AAC systems, as well as working with children of all ages. She received her Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Penn State University and received her Master's in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Pittsburgh.

  • Understand what is augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
  • Understand the different types of AAC and strategies for implementation
  • Learn strategies to improve overall communication skills
