The Spectrum Experience: A 2-part Series on Sexual Health and Wellness For Parents/Caregivers

Event Description:

This workshop is for PARENTS, GUARDIANS, FAMILY MEMBERS OF YOUTH/YOUNG ADULTS WITH DISABILITES.

If you find it uncomfortable to talk with your child about sexuality and puberty, you’re not alone. Most parents do. However, being comfortable talking about this with your child is so important, as these conversations are critical to your child’s health and safety. They help your child with a disability develop self-care skills, cultivate social skills, gain an understanding of appropriate behaviors, increase personal safety, and work toward becoming a more independent adult.

Parents know their children best and are the ones who determine when and what information their child needs regarding sexual health. This training will provide information for parents/guardians and offer practical tools and strategies you can use along your child’s journey to adulthood.

Date; March 28th & 31st, 2022

Time: 6:30 PM - 8:30PM

Where: Online

THIS TRAINING HAS 2 SESSIONS. REGISTRANTS SHOULD PLAN TO ATTEND BOTH THE MARCH 16TH AND MARCH 23RD SESSIONS.

Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC) has served as Virginia’s Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) for more than 40 years.  As a statewide nonprofit, PEATC has a proven track record of serving as a reliable resource for high-quality, impartial information that supports families, promotes self-advocacy among youth, and enhances leadership development opportunities for families, youth, and professionals.  In addition to serving as the state PTI, PEATC also serves as the Rehabilitative Services Administration Parent Center for Region B, consisting of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida with a focus on transition, employment, and independent living services and supports for youth and young adults with disabilities.  Throughout PEATC’s tenure as a PTI, it has continued to provide one on one assistance to families, as well as a plethora of in-person and virtual training opportunities and online courses. Beyond just special education, PEATC addresses LatinX outreach, bullying, outreach to military families, early childhood, Medicaid and Social Security, Sexual Health and Wellness, and Guardianship/Supported-decision-making.  PEATC’s role is to empower students, families, and professionals and help build capacity for improved outcomes for children with disabilities.
