Event Description: 

The Spectrum Experience and Sex Education offers education on sex and safe sex for teenagers and adults on the autism spectrum. It can be difficult for many parents and families to discuss this subject with a loved one on the autism spectrum, and is further challenging if the individual has some developmental or cognitive delays. As such, this topic is one that a frequently requested by parents and families seeking direction and support.

Presented by: / Panelists:

Elisabeth Bradner, MPH, Director of Education, Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi, educates on a variety of sexuality topics. Using medically accurate information and a comprehensive approach, she aims to empower youth to make decisions in-line with their values and provide their caregivers the tools to be primary sex educators. She also provides trainings, equipping youth-serving professionals with the comfort and skills to engage sexuality topics to build participant confidence and reduce stigma.   

Molly Rochelson (she/her) - As Peer Education Manager for Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi, Molly Rochelson (she/her) seeks to expand comprehensive sexuality education across the state by holding sexuality education sessions for various organizations around Knoxville, as well as by facilitating state-wide trainings for professionals to expand their comfort and competency in addressing sexuality-related issues. Additionally, Molly manages the youth development programs in Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis equipping participants with accurate sexual health information so that they may help empower other youth to make informed decisions aligned with their personal values.

Participants will receive an understanding of:

  • the difference between a friendship and a romantic relationship

  • what consent is  

  • what are boundaries  

  • what to think about before having sex
